Use of TRUST Administrative data to study predictors, incidence and burden of respiratory disease
Main Applicant – Associate Professor Sanjay H. Chotirmall, Vice Dean (Research), Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University (NTU)
This TRUST data request supports three TARIPH LCG Themes:
Theme 1: MEPAC (Multi-ethnic Endo-Phenotyping of Asthma and COPD)
Asthma and COPD impose a significant health burden across Asia. By analyzing clinical and administrative data, including from an RCT on biomarker-guided asthma care and studies on oral corticosteroid use in severe asthma, we aim to better understand disease progression, project disease burden, and identify patients at risk of poor outcomes to inform targeted interventions.
Theme 2: 2B-PICS (Burden and Biology of Post-Intensive Care Syndrome)
ICU survivors often experience long-term physical, psychiatric, and cognitive impairments, known as post-intensive care syndrome (PICS), resulting in increased healthcare use and socio-economic burden. We aim to study risk factors, project the burden of PICS, identify high-risk patients, and explore strategies to reduce its impact.
Theme 5: CAPE (Climate Change, Allergy, Pollution, and the Environment)
We will investigate how environmental and genetic factors influence respiratory sensitization and allergic diseases in Singapore’s tropical context. This includes studying environmental, dietary, and lifestyle risks, and quantifying related healthcare utilisation and costs, to inform prevention and management strategies.
