Disease and healthcare costs decomposition
Main Applicant – Dr Cynthia Chen Huijun, Assistant Professor, Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore (NUS)

This study aims to evaluate the trends in total healthcare costs and costs for diseases.

Then, we will look into decomposing the cost increase to evaluate what factors are causing the rise in healthcare costs. Possible factors include the increase in mean healthcare cost, population ageing, disease prevalence, or the number of inpatient users.

Understanding the factors which increase healthcare costs will help to prioritise healthcare policies and interventions, potentially reducing future healthcare expenditure.
